Removable Dentures

Dentures are removable devices that replace missing teeth. When natural teeth have been lost from an injury, disease, tooth decay, or any other reason, replacing the missing teeth with dentures can enhance the patient’s appearance and health.

There are several benefits to removable dentures. They support facial muscles and structures attached to the gums and teeth. They improve your smile! In addition, removable dentures make it easier to speak and eat. Dentures are made to closely resemble regular teeth, providing a natural-looking appearance our patients appreciate. Two primary types of dentures are available, depending on the needs and situation of each patient: partial or complete dentures.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures fill the gaps between remaining natural teeth; this helps prevent the natural teeth from shifting or causing other issues. The partial dentures consists of a metal framework with gaps included for the natural teeth to come through, or a plastic base to secure the teeth to the gums.

Complete Dentures

A complete set of dentures is needed when all the natural teeth have been lost or extracted; it serves to improve speech and eating functions. These dentures are usually secured with dental adhesive products.

Getting used to new dentures can take some time while your tongue and the muscles in your mouth and face adapt to the removable device. It’s not unusual to experience a level of irritation, soreness, increased salivation, and other effects in the beginning, but once you’ve adjusted to your dentures, they will feel natural.

It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene when wearing dentures to remove any food that may adhere and to keep your gums strong and healthy.

During a dental check-up, your dentist can check the dentures’ fit and make adjustments, as needed. If you have any questions about your removable dentures, feel free to contact our dental offices in Fairless Hills, PA today!
